Accommodation in the Scottish Borders: English language homestays; holiday cottage; dinner, B&B; sewing room;

We are a large, friendly family with four children aged 7, 11, 14 and 16.  Some of us are bilingual English/ German.  We live in the small town of Duns in the beautiful Scottish Borders. Having moved into our home about three years ago we have been busy renovating it ever since, doing most of the work ourselves. The house was built in 1791, but has been added to by later generations. We are passionate about the preservation of old houses and how they can be made more sustainable to live in, so the first thing we ordered when we moved in was a lorry load of sheep’s wool insulation!

We have a self-catering holiday cottage for up to 4 guests called Gardener’s Lodging attached to the back of the house, this apartment is made up of the former hayloft, groom’s accommodation and some additions in the 1930’s. We enjoy having visitors and we see letting accommodation as a fun and interesting way to raise money for our restoration project. During your stay in the Green Room (the former dining room of the house) you are invited to have dinner and breakfast with us in our newly created kitchen.

We also welcome learners of English into our home for an English language homestay. Homestay guests can stay in the apartment or in the Green Room. Your stay will include all food, lessons and regular outings. To find out more click here.
