About an hour’s drive from Duns, just south of Edinburgh, you will find the now famous Rosslyn Chapel. When I first went there about twenty years ago, it was a real hidden gem, and one of the main things I remember about it was the apprentice pillar, a magnificent pillar famed for its creator (the apprentice in question) having been killed by his master because he went rather over the top carving it, making it much more beautiful than that of the master stonemason! I had, however, quite forgotten that the chapel is full of other fascinating carvings, which one could spend ours marvelling at!
No photography in allowed inside, so we bought the guide book for people to peruse when visiting us. It is definitely worth the trip!
