With local walks from the door around Duns Castle Nature Reserve, golf at the local golf course, or the direct bus services to Eyemouth, Berwick-upon-Tweed, Melrose and Galashiels (with its new railway link), as well as offering access to Borders cycle routes, you may not want to use the car at all. Alternatively, the beach at Coldingham Bay and St Abbs are 20 minutes away by car, with many Bordes towns, abbeys and stately homes also within the vicinity. The attractions of the North Northumberland coast and the Cheviot hills are within easy reach as well, such as the Holy Island of Lindesfarne.
Duns itself can cater for all your daily shopping needs (including a prize-winning butcher), as well as offering gift shops, restaurants, pubs and cafes. It has a thriving community with events happening throughout the year. The nearest railway station is at Berwick-upon-Tweed. Duns golf course is just outside the town beyond the local swimming pool. Edinburgh is about one hour by car.
